The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors approved a 3.3 percent rate increase for trash removal and recycling services at a January meeting.

The increase, which took effect at the first of the year, affects many of the county’s west slope communities.

Waste Connections Inc., the company that handles waste removal services for much of the county had filed suit after supervisors denied a 3.4 percent increase last June.

The board agreed to a 0.1 percent increase and subsequently eliminated a fuel surcharge.
