Staff Report

Oak Ridge High’s tennis team advanced to the Monday’s semi-final match against Mira Loma with a 7-2 win over Rocklin on Wednesday.

The Lady Trojans handled things at the top of the ladder, getting wins at No.1 and No. 2 singles by Tori Trylovich and Sami Lee, respectively, while Grace Kim and the No. 3 doubles team of Morgan Bakarich and Gabby Zeagler won tough three-set matches in leading the team to victory. Katrina Lund also won in singles play, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Kaitlin Corell and Julia Lund and the No. 2 team of Alexis Hills and Lauren Roppolo.

Trylovich defeated Stefanie Studen, 6-3, 6-2 and Lee followed with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Jessey Clarke. Kim lost the first set of her match at No. 4 singles before rebounding to win the next two, 6-0, 6-4. Katrina Lund won at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 7-5.

Corell and Julia Lund defeated Shannon Pfeiffer and Becca Kinsey 7-6, 6-1, while Hill and Roppolo won 6-2, 6-2 over Meena Sandhu and Rachel Kim.

“We improved on our 5-4 win over Rocklin during the preseason,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said. “That’s not bad considering five of our 12 starters are freshmen.”
