Oak Ridge cross country sweeps league championships

Oak Ridge cross country teams started the postseason on a high note.

Both varsity squads, as well as the freshman-sophomore boys, won league titles Thursday at Granite Regional Park, while the freshman-sophomore girls only had three competitors.

The varsity boys filled the first four places, as Amjed Aboukhadijeh, Nathan Williams and Benji Xie completed the race in 16 minutes, 7 seconds, while Jeroen Keukenkamp placed fourth one second behind. Oak Ridge’s fifth runner, Zach Speno, ran ninth in 16:35.

Hayley Scott won the varsity girls’ race in 18:33, just four seconds in front of Vista’s Madeleine Ankhelyi. Oak Ridge then had the next three finishers, as Samantha Ralstin, Jackie Mansoor and Maxine Goyette ran third, fourth and fifth. Ralstin finished in 18:48, while Mansoor ran three seconds behind and Goyette finished three seconds behind Mansoor.

Brittney Putman placed seventh in 19:02.

Oak Ridge had the top-six finishers in the freshman-sophomore boys’ race in Parker Prestegard (10:43), Dusty Armstrong (10:44), Evan Baxter (10:44), Jake Zeltner (11:01), Zachary Thornton (11:06) and Marcos Conde (11:08).

Running for the Oak Ridge freshman-sophomore girls were Mia Brower (8th, 13:55), Pari-Naz Javaheri (10th, 14:14) and Hailey Heil (19th, 15:13).

Oak Ridge’s next meet is Saturday the Sub-section championships at Angels Camp.
