EDH South beats Folsom National in final game of 9-10 all-star tourney
The El Dorado Hills South 9-10-year-old All-Stars dropped their first two games of the tournament at Mann Field in Folsom, but finished in a big way, defeating Folsom National Wednesday night, 18-4. After losing to Lakeside, 5-2 and Woodcreek, 12-2, the EDH South All-Stars put it all together for the big win, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Derek Item in the top of the fourth inning, which broke open the game, putting EDH South on top, 9-3. EDH scored a run in the first when Dawson Danner reached base on an error, advanced to second on Cameron Madsen’s walk, stole third and then came home on a passed ball. Folsom National scored three times in the bottom of the inning to take a brief lead. Dylan Crane led off with a double and scored on Max Darrow’s single. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Darrow and Tyler Jacobs scored on passed balls to give Folsom National a two-run lead. That would be the last of the highlights for Folsom. EDH South tied the game in the top of the second with a RBI double by Michael Roos, which scored Jacob Walter, who had walked. Dylan Thomas followed with a run-scoring single that tied the game. In the third, Danner, Item and Trevor Standley hit consecutive singles to start the inning, as Standley’s poke drove in Danner to give EDH the lead for good, 4-3. Item came home on a wild pitch and John Wynne’s RBI single scored Standley. Item’s blast in the fourth made it 9-3 and EDH South tacked on another run on a wild pitch that scored Standley. Danner knocked in another run in the fifth when his fielder’s choice ground ball scored Thomas. Madsen followed with a triple to right field that made it 12-3 and Standley’s infield single put EDH South up by 10. Folsom scored its final run when Keyan Stanfield singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. EDH South scored five more runs in the top of the sixth on a wild pitch, a bases loaded walk and RBI singles by Danner, Standley and Walter.
