Law enforcement destroys more than $25 million of marijuana

Authorities found more than $25 million worth of marijuana plants during a Wednesday raid of several gardens in the Stumpy Meadows area off Wentworth Springs Road.

Members of various law enforcement teams raided “Mexican National” gardens, located in an area known for such illegal activity, and destroyed more than 15,000 marijuana plants found.

No suspects were found.

Evidence located in the gardens revealed suspects had been in the gardens as early as Wednesday morning. In one garden, evidence showed that some suspects had been armed.

Participating law enforcement agencies included The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of the Department of Justice Campaign Against Marijuana Planting and Mountain And Valley Marijuana Investigation Team, U.S. Forest Service, Fish and Game, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Marijuana is California's #1 cash crop. Instead of destroying it... export it. God knows that our state is low on funds.

Whats the tobacco taxes on 25mill??

41.1% x 25M would be $10,250,000

Thanks CR. And just like that in the AJ we solved the states problems!

legalize and tax the heck out of it and monitor people using it..save us taxpayers billions, no more DEA, crime along the mexican border, etc..and the law enforcement $$ spent eradicating it.

well thats $25 mil the state could of had towards their IOU's. Why are the people in charge always so stupid? How do they get these positions? They have somebody write them a speech, we buy it hook line & sinker. And here we are issuing IUO's.

auburnite; What do you mean by "monitor people using it". If it's legal, why monitor--as long as there's no driving involved & there's an age threshold.

Seems like a stoner move... " hey dude... wouldn't it be great if pot was legal?...." " Then the government would stay out of our business..."

Meanwhile the government is taxing and controlling the product....

Since the feds will no longer go after the mutts that sell this stuff as "medicine" why can't the dispensors be arrested for selling prescription medicine without a license?

If it's really medicine, and you have to have a prescription to get it, shouldn't the sellers only be pharmacist?

Burn it baby!

furrsg, I think you hit the nail on the head. It was never about medicine, it was about smoke dope to get high.

Semantics people.. The truth is, that who cares what people use it for anymore. Marijuana is less harmful than cigarettes and alcohol. God forbid they take away the hooch. I tell ya. It's been few and far between that you read a headline of domestic violence or armed robbery when there was cannibus involved. We sure could use the money.. and the cutbacks. Well.. At least there'd be a few more chill people anyways.

Realist: You & furrsg are swimming against the inevitable tide--eventually it'll burn alright--in a rolling paper or a pipe.
